Role:

 

As a member of the Cell Modeling Team, this engineer will develop and maintain advanced physics-based lithium-ion models based on mechanical, thermal and electrochemistry knowledge in conjunction with test dataThe candidate will also be expected to execute design of experiments to gather pertinent data to train, validate, and test the accuracy of the models.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Advance the capabilities of Tesla’s in-house cell models.
  • Develop mechanical sub-component models and advance the understanding of the interaction of cell mechanicals to electrochemical performance and degradation modes of a lithium-ion cell.
  • Write test plans, propose design of experiments, perform model validation with test data, and summarize findings.
  • Work closely with cell engineers in describing material and cell level characterization tests and to analyze test data.
  • Document and communicate model workflow, implementations, and results of simulation studies.
  • Be a member of a cross functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell design for different electric vehicle and energy product applications.

As a member of the Cell Modeling team, this engineer will develop and maintain advanced mathematical models to predict lithium ion cell performance and aging characteristics. The candidate will also be expected to propose and develop test methods to validate physical models. 

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Knowledge of the state-of-the-art modeling techniques used for lithium ion electrode chemistries.
  • Deep understanding of the relationship between physical parameters of a given cell design to the inputs of the mathematical model.  
  • Optimize model parameters to best predict empirical battery data.
  • Write test plans, propose design of experiments and summarize results in test reports.
  • Use data manipulation skills and data visualization techniques to convey model and test results to fellow engineers.
  • Be a member of a cross functional product development team to help determine the ideal cell chemistry and design for electric vehicle and energy product applications.
