Electric Vehicle Lab at Indian Institute Of Technology–Madras (IIT–Madras)
Decibels Electric Vehicle Lab at Indian Institute Of Technology–Madras offers advanced EV tech training and research
The Electric Vehicle Lab at IIT Madras was successfully commissioned on 5th June 2026 in collaboration with Decibels Lab as part of the institution’s initiative to strengthen industry-aligned research, practical learning, and advanced skill development in electric mobility and energy systems.
Designed to provide focused exposure to Optimal Energy Management Strategies (EMS) for electric vehicles and energy storage applications, the facility enables students, researchers, and faculty members to gain hands-on understanding of energy flow optimization, control strategy development, power distribution, and system-level validation workflows used in modern electric mobility systems. The lab bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world EV engineering practices through application-oriented experimentation and research.
The Electric Vehicle Lab is equipped with an industry-grade platform, including:
This setup enables learners to perform structured experiments and practical demonstrations related to energy management algorithm development, power flow optimization, battery utilization strategies, load sharing, system efficiency analysis, and control strategy validation. Through this platform, students and researchers gain direct exposure to advanced energy management techniques and intelligent control workflows aligned with industry and research requirements.
To ensure effective utilization of the infrastructure, the Decibels Lab team conducted a 3-day intensive hands-on training program for faculty members and students, focusing on system operation, experiment execution, control strategy development, safety practices, and practical applications in electric vehicle energy management systems. The Electric Vehicle Lab empowers the institution to support practical learning, research projects, and industry-oriented skill development in advanced EV technologies, strengthening its commitment to developing future-ready engineers and researchers in electric mobility and sustainable energy systems.
