Module 1

Module 1 of the master course will cover the topics such as foundation to Finite Element Method & Analysis (FEM & FEA), simulation & analysis performed for automotive, aerospace, and commercial vehicles, standard finite element process, and the need for meshing, and career opportunities for CAE engineers. Module 1 will also cover the practical & hands-on training with Altair HyperMesh software. Topics covered such as Hypermesh GUI, HyperMesh desktop toolbars, menu bars, working with Visualization/Display/View Toolbars, and Organizing the model. By the end of Module 1, the learner will be able to use Altair Hypermesh Software & know the functionalities of the Hypermesh Toolbar.

Module 2

Module 2 will cover topics such as geometry terminologies, geometry tools, usage of functional keys, introduction to surface clean-up, manual CAD clean-up using topology geometry edition, and geometry creation using surface tools. In continuation to geometry, you will learn the Mid-Surface Extraction Process for the components with complex features, Manual Mid Surface Generation, and Handling Symmetric Geometry. Learners will also get to work on surface edition tools for sheet metal and trim parts, and mid-surface extraction for variable-thickness plastic parts. By the end of Module 2, the learner will be able to do all the necessary geometry cleanups, extracting the mid surface using different techniques and topology corrections.

Module 3

Module 3 will cover topics such as Meshing annotations, types of Elements (1D/2D/3D Special Elements), Element Selection, and Mesh Density. Basic thumb rules for meshing and Mesh Convergence Summary. Types of 2D elements and use cases. Creation of 2D elements and their characteristics. Geometry capturing, Elements flow line, the importance of tria elements, and necessary actions for a good flow of mesh with feature lines. By the end of Module 3, the learner will have a clear knowledge of meshing and the elements used for meshing. And will be able to create 2D elements for different purposes.

Module 4

Module 4 will cover the 2D meshing with practice modules & projects. Topics such as the creation of 2D elements, Auto meshing, and remeshing. Capturing the geometry features using mesh deck tools, recreating the elements for an existing mesh area, along with various skills to achieve a good mesh flow. You will also learn how to create the elements on washers and geometry features and tria handlings for sheet metal components and commands used in mesh decks. You will be introduced to Quality parameters, and how to achieve a good quality of elements by capturing all the geometry. By the end of Module 4, the learner will be able to create 2D meshing for different automotive components.

Module 5

Module 5 will cover advanced 2D meshing for complex components (plastic parts). Topics such as the reconstruction of existing elements using tools and manual surface creations. Capturing the complex features for trim parts with minimum trias and mesh flow lines. Practice for better Quality of elements, mesh finalization with good quality of elements by capturing all the features. Thickness assignments and assigning the variable thickness for plastic components. By the end of Module 5, the learner can mesh complex 2D meshing like trim parts (plastics) and learn the industry standards to meet the quality checks.

Module 6

Module 6 will cover the need for 3D meshing, types of 3D elements, and usage of 3D Elements in automotive applications. The learner will build the tetra mesh using different tetra creation tools in Hypermesh, generating the volume tetra elements using different techniques, and maintaining the quality of tetra elements. Creating Hexa or Brick elements using different tools and techniques for given cad, volume mesh deck 3D quality parameters and checks. By the end of Module 6, the learner will be able to do the 3D meshing using Tetra and Hexa elements and clear the quality of the elements with necessary checks.

Module 7

Module 7 will cover the topics such as introduction to 1D Elements, creation of different 1D elements, and 1D applications. Learners will be creating the 1D elements for components and also for the assembly of components based on the geometry and solution required. Quality checks for 1D elements, the importance of duplicates, and free 1D nodes. And Introduced connectors, connectors terminologies, and types of connectors and created the connector for connections. By the end of Module 7, the learner will be able to do 1D meshing for the assembly of components, and they will learn to define the contacts also.

Module 8

Module 8 will cover the need for 3D meshing, types of 3D elements, and usage of 3D Elements in automotive applications. The learner will build the tetra mesh using different tetra creation tools in Hypermesh, generating the volume tetra elements using different techniques, and maintaining the quality of tetra elements. Creating Hexa or Brick elements using different tools and techniques for given cad, volume mesh deck 3D quality parameters and checks. By the end of Module 8, the learner will be able to do the 3D meshing using Tetra and Hexa elements and clear the quality of the elements with necessary checks.

Module 9

Module 9 will cover the topics of clearing free edges, adjusting the normals, and the importance of duplicate elements. Learners will be taught to use the Altair solvers Optistruct and Radioss. Deck preparations for solvers like assigning the materials and properties, defining the boundary conditions and applying different loads, output requests, and defining the control cards, for analysis using Optistruct solver. By the end of Module 9, the learner will have clear knowledge & practice to prepare the deck, and will be able to carry out the free-free run for the model check, and can carry out the stress analysis.

Module 10

Module 10 of the master course will focus on Dynamic analysis along with the post-processing of the simulation results. Learners will be taught to use the Altair HyperView and Hypergraph toolbars, review the input file, and output file formats, read the results files (output files in text formats) for error checking, practice extracting the results, interpret and report the results with different loading conditions, and post-processing the simulation values. Along with this, the learner will also learn the contact definitions for 2D and 3D elements. and also gain different solver knowledge. By the end of Module 10, the learner is able to define the contacts for elements and plot the desired results, and can understand the other solver files. The learner is able to plot the desired results and they can generate the end-to-end report file.
