Course overview
What is Virtual Lab?
In this pandemic we have a limited access to visit physical labs at college or universities. Labs play a vital role to understand the practical orientation of theory subjects we study in & labs gives us the possibility to understand the subject better & build our interest in subject. Due to Covid, we have limited options to conduct experiments physically.
To address this need, team of experts at Decibels has build a virtual labs using simulation tool called Scilab Xcos. You get to learn the lab experiments by building the simulation models with the help of equations & study the output of system. You can even compare the simulation results to real time experiments at later stage for validation.
Learning procedure
- Scilab Xcos software training & lab experiments are provided in the from of pre recorded lectures
- Course access for the lab is limited to 10 days (Course will auto expire)
- You will receive a course completion certificate
Learn to use Scilab - Xcos
Step 1
Thermal Conductivity of Metal Rod (Aluminium)
Step 2, Experiment 1
Heat Transfer Co-efficient by Natural Convection
Step 3, Experiment 2
Heat Transfer Co-efficient Composite Wall
Step 3, Experiment 3

Model-Based Design (MBD) is a mathematical and visual method of addressing problems associated with designing complex control, signal processing, and communication systems. It is used in many motion controls, industrial equipment, aerospace, and automotive applications, embedded systems, system modeling, state estimations & optimizations, etc.. Model-based design is a methodology applied in designing embedded software. During the past years, there is a growing interest of more and more medium to small size engineering companies in order to cut down development time and costs.
Model-Based Design (MBD) is applicable for all the engineers from departments such as Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Robotics, Aerospace & more. Visit the Scilab website to check out more of its applications: https://www.scilab.org/applications
About Scilab & Why Scilab
Scilab is a powerful Open source software for numerical computation. Scilab includes hundreds of mathematical functions. It has a high-level programming language allowing access to advanced data structures, 2-D, and 3-D graphical functions. A large number of functionalities is included in Scilab: control, simulation, optimization, signal processing, etc. and Xcos, the hybrid dynamic systems modeler and simulator is provided with the platform.
Scilab & Xcos toolbox offers very competitive features and it’s a 280 MB files, easy to download the run even on lesser configuration systems. Which is very easy for students to download and use for the needs.
