About the course

Altair HyperMesh is a high-performance finite element pre-processor to prepare even the largest models, starting from the import of CAD geometry to exporting an analysis run for various disciplines. Altair HyperMesh is used in various sectors like the aviation and aerospace industry for the analysis of local structures and the identification and removal of redundant material. It speeds up CAD to Finite Element Modeling (FEM) creation with the help of building tools and it also helps in meshing and automated model construction in the automotive industry.

About 2450+ companies use Altair HyperMesh. With training and certification in Altair Hypermesh, you get skilled for numerous job opportunities in automotive, aerospace, oil and gas, home appliances, consumer goods, defense, biomedical, electronics, heavy machinery, and the marine industry.

Decibels Lab offers Altair HyperWorks online courses which include Finite Element Meshing using Altair HyperMesh. The course includes various Computer-Aided Engineering & Finite Element Analysis topics on Altair HyperWorks Products. The course curriculum is developed to cater to the needs of Simulation Industries.

Decibels FEA using HyperMesh for Automotive Plastics and Sheet Metal Applications online course curriculum includes topics like Introduction to FEA & HyperMesh, Geometry Clean-up, Mid surface Extraction, Shell Meshing(2D), 3D Solid Meshing, 1D Meshing and Connectors, Analysis Setup, Loading, Exporting, and Solving, Introduction to HyperView The 4-week course will involve you to build real-world FEA applications using Hypermesh. It will be 100% practical & hands-on content taught online to meet the industry requirements. Learning in this course will give you the opportunity to extend yourself to build any system and take up the projects of your interest.

FEA/FEM Fundamentals

Week 1

HyperMesh is one of the most popular Finite Element pre-processor used to generate meshes of complex models. To understand the pre-processors and their importance in FEA Processes, We will start with the installation of the software & understanding the fundamentals of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and the need for simulation with a wide range of applications of FEA being used in Industries. Later discuss the math behind FEA along with the different analysis types of engineering problem-solving methods, Types of CAE process Model setup, Need for meshing, and different types of meshing, Introduction to HyperMesh GUI, Toolbars, basic operations, and the various feature that HyperMesh supports, Working with the browser view and organizing the model.

Practice with examples to start project

Week 2

Pre-processing, Refine Topology, Geometry Editing, Mid-Surface extraction of Plastic Trims and Sheet metal Parts Geometries are an important phase in performing FEA. While dealing with complex 3D structural components, it is important to remove small features and holes that are expected while designing a CAD model. We will extensively cover the topic by which the students can understand Refine Topology Edition, geometry clean up, tools available for geometry clean-ups, using geometry edition options. Mid-Surface extracting and working on Sheet metal parts. Generating mid-surface using the geometry tools to clean up the distorted geometry using an Auto-mid-surface. Will also learn how to clean up the surface manually because relying only on the Auto-mid-surface option may give rise to a distorted surface while dealing with complex geometry. Plastic parts are of variable thickness, therefore, extracting the mid surface and assigning the thickness to the components. Sheet metal and Plastic components will be given for practice. Projects: Different CAD files will be given for geometry Refining and Topology.

Start to Build Finite Elements

Week 3

2D Meshing for Sheet metal and Plastic Trim Parts Introduction to Element Types in HyperMesh, Basics of 2D meshing, how topology affects the mesh, Auto meshing tool, Creation of Elements on the surface. Re-mesh a meshed surface, and mesh flow consistency in the geometry. Along with various techniques for achieving the mesh flow. eliminating the tria concentration present in the geometry, capturing the important features in the geometry. Manual mesh generation using different meshing options. Significance of Elements Quality, Different Quality parameters and maintain the quality of the elements throughout the geometry taking measures to achieve a good quality of Elements. Other Quality checks before submitting the job. And how not to mesh. Introduction to Batch Meshing uses batch meshing and its applications in industries. Understand quality parameters and criteria files Optimizing these files according to the requirement. Projects: Sheet metal and Plastic parts will be given for Meshing.

Post Processing

Week 4

Study the Model Setup Procedures Element Properties and Materials, various element formulations are available for different types of elements in HyperMesh and their applications, assigning the thickness for the components and understanding various parameters available in the property card and their significance. Similarly, various material cards are available and their use cases along with their failure criteria. Boundary Conditions Setup a proper boundary condition for any given simulation, different types of loading conditions. Setup of Linear Static analysis loading conditions such as Force, the constraint on degree of freedom. Files Export for the different solvers. Concept of processing. Introduction to HyperView to post-process the simulation results to review the Stress and Displacement Values. Projects: Linear Static analysis for Sheet metal components.

Projects you will build

By the end of the course, learners will be proficient in using all the commands/features with the help of practical case studies. Learners are further assigned individual projects with various complexity levels. These projects will provide an opportunity to build experience & confidence to handle projects to defined complexities. Students are expected to perform the CAD clean-up, Midsurface Extraction and meet the Meshing and quality criteria. This course is an entry program to build FEA meshing practices and geometry cleaning.

“A well structured program within the set time frame, helped me gain enough understanding to know about and use Scilab Xcos software, and work on projects which were amply challenging to help me understand about the model, go back and correct my mistakes and understand the analysis of the output. What I learnt through this internship serves as the perfect foundation and the skills I've gained will help me work on future projects with confidence. Apart from the technical part itself, you take us through the industry persepctive and what could we be doing to improve ourselves (work on more projects etc), delve more into what we've learnt, what to showcase in CVs which wholly rounded out my experience ”

“The course was wonderfully organized, with keen attention to detail. The topics covered were of sufficient depth for the duration of the course, and the 8th session covering hand calculation was excellent exposure for the attendees. One con however is that the videos seem to be very lengthy, and since this was posted as a self paced course, giving shorter videos of 1/2 hour durations would have been much better for attendee satisfaction.”
